Job Summary/Basic Function: This position, in our Technology Ventures department, involves developing scientific technologies from conception in the laboratory to Intellectual Property (IP) Protection at the Patent Office. The Technology Development Specialist will communicate and collaborate with scientists/inventors to identify and submit invention disclosures as required by the Bayh-Dole Act or Patent and Trademark Law Amendments Act. Coordinate and assist scientists/inventors and patent attorneys in the filing of suitable patent applications for intellectual property protection. Manage the prosecution of patents in the IP portfolio. Develop and maintain the IP portfolios in our IP management software. Continue to communicate and collaborate with scientists/inventors throughout the development of their scientific technology. Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in life sciences and at least 1 year of relevant work experience. Good computer skills are required including Microsoft Office products. General experience with databases required. Must have excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Must be amicable and confident in interacting with people, confidential in discussions with a high attention to detail and recall. Must work well in an office environment, engage as a team member, and work independently. Must be consistent and dependable and have the ability to work under strict deadlines and changing priorities. May travel as needed.
Minimum Degree Required: Doctorate
Preferred Qualifications: At least 2 years of relevant experience in technology transfer, knowledge of patent law, and/or experience in entrepreneurship.
Physical Demands: Regularly required to sit, talk, hear, use manual dexterity, and use hands and arms to reach. Occasionally required to stand, walk, and lift or move up to 10 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The noise level is usually quiet.
