IP/Portfolio Management, Licensing, Technology Transfer and Commercialization
Management and Leadership • Manage the day to day operations of the NUtech Ventures licensing team • Lead and support the licensing team working with faculty, staff and students to identify, protect, market and license inventions created at UNL • Lead NUtech Ventures strategy for increased licensing activity by implementation of best practices and creative programs • Server as a mentor, expert advisor, and supervisor for the licensing team • Present quarterly to the NUtech Board of Directors on licensing activity • Work as an integral part of a team contributing to the on-going evolution of NUtech Ventures in its mission of commercializing University intellectual property and enhancing the economic development of Nebraska • Other duties as assigned
Technology Portfolio Management • Director of Licensing will manage a portfolio of technologies/intellectual properties • Be acutely aware of research activity on campus and actively scout for new discoveries • Lead assessment of assigned technology portfolio and formulate optimal marketing and licensing strategies • Market technologies to companies, investors and collaborators • Create research and licensing partnerships with industry partners • Negotiation and execution of royalty bearing license deals
Outreach and education • Develop and leverage an extensive professional network by building and maintaining long-term personal relationships with potential licensees and/or investors • Build relationships with existing licensees as well as potential industry partners to gain alignment and interest in University technology areas • Educate the University of Nebraska-Lincoln inventor community regarding IP protection and commercialization
Minimum Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in a STEM or related field • 7-10 years’ experience in technology transfer and intellectual property management • Proven effectiveness in license negotiation and administrative management in technology transfer and economic development • Excellent verbal and written communications • Demonstrated successful personnel supervisory experience
• 10-15 years’ experience in technology transfer and intellectual property management • Masters or Ph.D. degree in engineering, physical sciences. material sciences, or related field • Work experience in a corporate technology licensing environment • 5 or more years of successful supervisory experience in a technology transfer setting
