The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Technology Licensing Office is seeking a Technology Licensing Associate supporting the Physical Sciences technology portfolio. The Technology Licensing Associate will administer existing intellectual property agreements for the MIT Technology Licensing Office working with and under the direction of Technology Licensing Officers. The Associate will serve as a liaison to various internal and external constituencies and, working under the tutelage of the Licensing Officer, communicating with faculty, students, industrial counterparts, university collaborators, patent attorneys and internal operations teams on invention disclosures, licensing activities, finances associated with intellectual property agreements, and patent prosecution and maintenance matters. The Associate will participate in licensing negotiations with industrial parties and will draft basic agreement clauses and amendments reflecting negotiations for review by the Licensing Officers. Responsible for negotiation and drafting of joint invention administration agreements, material transfer agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and letters for review by Officers. The Associate is responsible for entering information about intellectual property agreements into an internal database management system and keeping internal records associated with agreements current, in addition to generating associated reports. A background in physical science and technology, such as B.S. in physics or engineering is needed. Outstanding written and oral skills with the ability to quickly communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly is vital. Must be a self-starter able to manage many parallel tasks and responsibilities despite interruptions, have a strong intellectual curiosity, comfort with ambiguity and an interest in clarifying and simplifying complexity. Strong priority management and proofing skills needed. An interest in intellectual property and technology transfer as well as professional experience in a business /office environment are desirable.
