IP/Portfolio Management, Licensing, Technology Transfer and Commercialization
PURPOSE of POSITION:
The Director, Commercialization is responsible for Ventech Solutions’ commercialization strategy execution primarily from the academic and non-profit sectors. The Director, Commercialization oversees and manages all aspects of Ventech Solutions’ portfolio of technologies from external sources brought through the Ventech Commercialization Office. The Director, Commercialization manages the relationships with academic and non-profit organizations, ensuring a high throughput of viable and attractive technologies for the VCO pipeline. The Director, Commercialization works with the CIO and the VP, IP for all licensing and IP related contracts. The Director, Commercialization guides the company to make the right decisions through extensive knowledge of technology and patent due diligence. The Director, Commercialization also oversees functions of the due diligence team that will be responsible for evaluation of technologies from a market, intellectual property and competitive analysis. The Director, Commercialization drives the company's growth through external innovations and jump starts the presence as a health care data analytics innovation company.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
35%: Builds relationships with universities, federal laboratories, global research centers and incubators to provide viable technologies to the company which can be licensed or optioned. Provide leadership to the company in these sectors making the brand recognized nationally for gestation of technologies, startups and venturing.
25%: Evaluates and performs due diligence for the submitted technologies. Is the team lead for all due diligence done on these technologies either on-site or offsite.
10%: Builds a sustainable team of interns who can support the due diligence for submitted technologies.
15%: Negotiate licenses, options, research agreements and any other IP related agreements with advice from the VP, IP.
15%: Working with the overall VCO team support growth in new ventures, out-licensing and proof of concept of technologies.
Bachelor’s Degree required
Course of Study/Major: Sciences
Related Work Experience: 8-10 years
Prior experience in licensing and technology transfer.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to manage, develop, engage and lead legal professionals.
Broad range of relevant legal experience, including the ability to review legal agreements, patents, and other related business issues in real time.
Unquestioned personal integrity; seen as a role model for ethical principles and values of the Company and practices required by law.
Excellent judgment and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

SCOPE of POSITION:
This position reports to Chief Investment Officer. This position is responsible for establishing work unit goals and the execution of departmental plans. Supervises, coordinates, provides leadership to and reviews the work of professional and supervisory level subordinates to accomplish operational plans and results. Estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work to subordinates to meet service and budget targets. Contributes to the development of an operating plan and budget. Responsible for managing to a budget. Build teams by coaching and developing staff. Ensures performance planning and evaluation of employee(s) occurs per policy. Responsible for all aspects of staffing, training, rewarding and disciplining employees.
