The University of South Florida, located in Tampa, is seeking two talented licensing managers to join its team and help USF continue its transition into a major research institution. Today, USF is one of only 40 public research universities nationwide with very high research activity that is designated as community engaged by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.
Each manager will focus their attention on physical sciences or life sciences for the identification, evaluation, protection, and commercialization of intellectual property that result from USF innovative research activities. I
Senior Licensing Managers work in a central Technology Transfer administration office and independently evaluate and manage the protection and best use of intellectual property for multiple assigned areas. The position will negotiate and draft complex legal documents such as licensing agreements, options, stock agreements, material agreements or confidential disclosure agreements.
This is a senior level position that requires experience and proven ability to manage complex agreements and a significant caseload of technologies. The duties will vary, based on the ongoing research at the University, but the most typical duties for the Licensing Manager positions include the following:
Manage a technology docket caseload of significant size that covers a broad range of innovative technologies. Solicit the University community for new invention/copyright disclosures.
Evaluate and identify new technologies for the University’s intellectual property portfolio and manages the protection and perfections of IP in assigned areas.
Triage older disclosures and works directly with faculty to communicate the process and evaluation of disclosures and related intellectual property.
Reviews and approves marketing plans to identify licensing opportunities to derive revenue potential. Identifies targets for marketing campaigns.
Independently negotiate and draft licensing agreements, options, stock agreements that require an understanding of complex deal structures.
Assists with special projects including grant applications, business plans, promotional materials, conferences, and start-up initiatives as needed.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM related field and relevant work experience in contract negotiation, business development, technology analysis or commercialization.
Advanced degree in a STEM field, a PhD or JD, depending on the focus area may also be considered a benefit.
