The Technology Licensing Office (TLO) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) manages MIT’s intellectual property through filing and prosecuting a varied patent portfolio and transfers this technology across the world through licensing to companies. We seek a full-time Technology Licensing Associate (TLA) to join our life sciences team. Supporting a Technology Licensing Officer(s), the TLA will assist in drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements including confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements, joint invention agreements and license agreements. The TLA will establish and maintain the entries for technologies in a comprehensive intellectual property, contractual, and financial database, and will communicate this information to teams inside and outside of the TLO.
The TLA will be exposed to major areas of technology licensing and will work closely with leading scientists, entrepreneurs, and patent attorneys and will have the opportunity to evaluate and explore commercial opportunities for MIT technologies. The TLO provides continuous learning opportunities with regular presentations from experts on technology development, licensing, patent prosecution and entrepreneurship.

B.A. or B.S. degree in the life sciences or biomedical fields required. Excellent organizational and priority setting skills, good judgment, and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are required. 1-3 years of experience in university or corporate technology transfer a plus. Basic understanding of the patenting process and experience reading technology focused contracts is highly desirable. Must be detail and deadline oriented. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, including the ability to quickly communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly. Good familiarity with Microsoft Office and databases a must. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong intellectual curiosity, is a self-starter who thrives in an environment that encourages strategic thinking, and enjoys working both independently and in a collaborative setting.
