The Technology Licensing Office (TLO) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) manages MIT’s intellectual property through filing and prosecuting a wide and varied patent portfolio and then disseminates this technology across the world through licensing to companies. We are looking for a Technology Licensing Associate (TLA) to join our team focusing in the physical sciences area. This is an entry-level position. Supporting a Technology Licensing Officer, the TLA will assist in drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements and will establish and maintain the entries for those technologies in a comprehensive technology, intellectual property, contractual, and financial database. The TLA will be exposed to major areas of technology licensing and will work closely with leading scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, and patent attorneys and will have the opportunity to evaluate and explore commercial opportunities for MIT technologies. B.A. or B.S. degree in the physical science or engineering fields required. Excellent organizational and priority setting skills, good judgment, and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are required. 1-3 years of work experience is desired – university or corporate technology transfer, or paralegal environment is a plus. Knowledge of patents and technology focused contracts is highly desirable. Must be detail and deadline oriented. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, including the ability to quickly communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly. Good familiarity with Microsoft Office and databases a must. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong intellectual curiosity, is a self-starter who thrives in an environment that encourages strategic thinking, and enjoys working both independently and in a collaborative setting.
