The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Technology Commercialization Professional.

The Technology Commercialization Professional will work under the direction of the Director of Technology Commercialization in the IDEA Center. This position will promote adoption of University of Notre Dame technologies by performing technology assessments, market evaluations, and patentability analyses often for complex and multi-faceted commercial opportunities.
Assess Technologies and Evaluate Markets:
Know and understand the criteria and requirements for marketing, managing and commercializing inventions and technologies
Conduct research and analysis to identify commercial applications and determine commercial potential within the various market applications
Identify potential partner and ways to position technologies in a competitive environment for their greatest commercial success
Support Marketing and Management Strategies for Technologies:
Prepare descriptions and marketing materials to fulfill marketing strategies
Draft terms and conditions documents for research collaboration and licensing technologies
Post technology descriptions and other marketing or promotional materials on the website and other media outlets for maximum marketing exposure.
Evaluate Technologies for Patent Protection:
Know and understand complex issues surrounding the US patenting and copyright processes, rules and guidelines; hold and exercise sound working knowledge of the various elements of a patent
Discuss issues of patentability with the Office of General Counsel and outside patent counsel
Assist in various patent application documents and documentation, including provisional patent applications with exemplary claims.
Know and use commercialization database management system (Inteum)
Develop and manage program to employ graduate research assistants and interns for the purpose of evaluating technologies from the perspective of technical feasibility, competitive advantage, market opportunity, and legal protection.
Coordinate and work with Commercialization Program Manager to plan, structure and drive licensing support work
Sustain Compliance and Reporting:
Know and meet the regulatory compliance requirements imposed by the Bayh-Dole Act of 1980 with respect to commercialization of intellectual property developed as a result of US Government sponsored research programs
Know and meet the intellectual property compliance requirements associated with the Patriot Act of 2001 with regard to the Department of Commerce's Export Administration Regulations and the Department of State's International Trafficking in Arms Regulations
Understand, use and comply with the requirements for the US Government's iEdison invention disclosure reporting system

Bachelor’s degree in Bio-Engineering or related field, Life Science or related field
3-5 years significant, related experience
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to foster collegial and cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and other University stakeholders
Ability to understand and explain the wide variety of research and instructional programs on-going at the University of Notre Dame
Ability to compose official correspondence in a professional manner
Ability to make public presentations and to interact with individuals, both internally and externally, at all levels of business, federal and state government, and academia
Ability to define complex problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and act upon those conclusions
Ability to apply broad-based knowledge of the University’s structure and systems to commercialization efforts and operations

Pleasant personality, positive outlook, willingness to foster and maintain a positive team oriented environment
Advanced degree preferred, especially in Bio-Engineering or Life Science related field
Experience in market research, technical analysis, technical writing
Experience in IP (esp. patents) evaluation and comparison to identify FTO issues and develop alternate paths to commercialization
